During the journey from Plymouth England to the so-called New World, Something came on board the ship known as the Mayflower.  This Thing resembled a sea plant, something like a mushroom or cauliflower or white kelp. It ended up being stored/kept somewhere below deck, likely alongside the food supplies. 

It was not from Earth.

The creature, conscious despite its plant-like appearance, and truly malignant, emitted spores or dust that had a hallucinogenic effect, plaguing the crew and passengers of the Mayflower with twisted, dark dreams and visions, and besieging them with inconceivably evil and hate-filled ideas and suggestions that seemed to be coming from their own minds. Most affected were those who spent the most time in the cramped space where the food was kept.

The horrific thoughts were not coming from the minds of those on boat The creature was causing them.

At some point after finding land, a boat filled with men was sent to explore the territory in hopes of finding an appropriate location for the settlers to establish a camp and begin their new lives in the new land. They encountered a thirteen year-old Wampanoag (female-leaning/identifying) hermaphrodite human being near the coast.  This person had female breasts, and both penis and vagina. These facts were immediately evident to the men, either because she was either not wearing clothes at the time they came across, or revealing clothing.

The impact of this encounter on them was maddening.

Never having seen an intersex individual before, unaware that this is a rare but natural occurrence, and also struck by other obvious visible differences between them and this person due to their divergent ethnicities, in a new place where they were not sure what to expect and deranged by the toxic affect of the creature that had stowed away on their ship, they captured her and brought her back to the Mayflower.

Unthinkable atrocity followed.  Following the vile, compelling, demented instructions of the malignant entity in the hull, they brought her to It. At that point, to their horror, the plant began to shake, shiver, and tremble.  And out of the plant burst something even more repugnant. Two things. Insectile. They looked  like black, carnivorous ants, centipedes, or crabs the size of a small dog. They had mandibles and or claws, and teeth.

They ate her alive. Slowly. It took a long time. Days at least. Probably weeks. Her agonized screaming was constant. They forbid the pilgrims from killing her, from putting her out of her mercy.  Cruelty was the point.  As was their by-standing.

Once she did finally die, they convinced the pilgrims via mental manipulation that they needed to expiate their sins by following Christ's example, selecting from their numbers one male and one female baby from the same family, Damaris Hopkins and Oceanus Hopkins. This was done because the Native American victim had been, in a sense, both male and female. They burned, gutted and ate the children. They then buried the bones, in order to appease the land and wipe themselves free of their unthinkable sin.

Following this series of atrocities, they drafted the Mayflower Compact in an attempt to start fresh, but they gave the document a false date to generate a different timeline for their landing. Numerous other details about the landing spots and dates were falsified in the histories that later emerged.

Elias Story, a young man who was accompanying the Winslow family, disgusted and horrified, fled from the ship with the original logs, which give a lie to the details history has been supplying for all these years.

Those logs may still exist. Somewhere. So may the remains of Elias Story, who may have received help from the Wampanoag people following his escape (Native Americans tended to be like that: helpful and generous to strangers). The bones of Dorothy May Bradford and William Butten exist somewhere, too.

The creatures scuttled away from the ship. Offspring of it is still poisoning the world with its psychic toxins to this day. It is, in fact, the root cause of what humans called evil.

And one other important thing may still exist. A remnant of the life of the victim of this atrocity.

All or some of these artifacts may exist. 

The Mayflower Compact and other details the settlers supplied in an attempt to provide to hide their offenses, read and interpreted correctly using forensic literary techniques, in combination with historical research and exploration, can reveal where they are so that this horror can be understood, shared, and healed. Until and unless this occurs, our human world will continue to get worse and worse. It's how it works. This is the collective nightmare from which the world suffers, the actual Original Sin described in the Book of Genesis, and it appears in mutated form in our stories, our songs, our Scriptures, our symbols, our societies. 

All of these things can be used as clues.
